ECOTOURISM
Ecuador is considered as one of the countries with the world_s greatest megadiversity. It has 1,640 bird species, more than twice the number in Europe or North America. We also have also 4,500 species of long tailed butterflies, 358 species of amphibians, 345 species of reptiles, 280 species of mammals, 800 species of fresh water fish and 450 species of salt water fish.
Ecuador hosts 25 000 species of vascular plants. The orchid family represents 2 725 identified species, accounting for 30 percent of the species catalogued for Latin America. Our country also has more than 20 Parks and Reserved Areas to protect our biodiversity, the spectacular landscapes and the world unique species.

Ecuador offers tourists a series of attractions that can be enjoyed in a few hours time, many of them within one single day. From the bristling heat of the coast you can go throught the mountains, climbing up snow-capped peaks and majestic volcanoes to finally plunge back into the Amazon jungle.
Ecuador, located in the middle of the world, offers travelers a fascinating encounter with nature and with a multiplicity of living cultures that, added to the vast hotel and services infrastructure and the hospitality of its people, make this country a unique tourist destination.
In its small territory we find the world’s largest megadiversity, acknowledged by the designations of the Galapagos Islands and its Marine Reserve, and of the Sangay National Park as World Natural Heritage Sites. Ecuador also boasts two cities considered World Cultural Heritage Sites: Quito and Cuenca.
